What is Jr. NBA All About? Can 4 and 5 year olds play Basketball? Now, more than ever, parents want to start their children in athletic activities at increasingly younger ages. T he research on the matter suggests that this early entry into sports can be highly beneficial to children IF the correct developmentally appropriate tasks are emphasized and stress and competition levels remain low. The Jr. NBA will strive to do just that. We will begin the season by teaching and practicing the various locomotive, axial, and coordination skills that serve as a base for all related basketball skills. Cooperation and teamwork skills will also be a main focus. As the season continues, sessions will gradually begin to look less and less like a movement education class, and more like a basketball practice. When are the sessions? Sessions are twice a week, once on a weeknight at 5:00 pm, and once on Sunday. Sessions will last an hour. The season will run for Ten weeks, starting in February and ending in April. Weeknights will be geared toward teaching and drilling skills, and Sundays will give players opportunities to demonstrate, have fun with, and practice their skills. Also on Sundays, we will learn about and practice game situations, and by the end of the season, we will be playing full-length, officiated, 5 on 5 games! Jr. NBA kids will play with "mini" sized basketballs and play on 6' baskets. What is the Cost? An all inclusive registration fee of $149 will be all that is required, to cover all of the facilities for all practices and Games as well as the Uniform costs and end of year awards.
